OnwardsandUpwards attend Parliamentary Review Annual Gala
Here at OnwardsandUpwards we’ve dedicated years to developing and fine-tuning a holistic assessment and analysis platform to better support SEND pupils and schools. This year, in recognition of our achievements, the 2019 Parliamentary Review cited us as ‘Best Practice for SEND Assessment Systems’. It is a genuine highlight of the journey we’ve been on and one we wanted to share with you.
Parliament, peers and best practice
The Parliamentary Review was established back in 2010 with the purpose of sharing best practice among policymakers and business leaders across industries. It highlights how sector leaders have stepped up to the political and economic challenges facing the UK.
On March 27 2019, industry leaders featured in the Parliamentary Review were invited to the House of Commons by Lord Pickles and Lord Blunkett to be congratulated at the Gala Launch event. Among these industry leaders were our very own Directors of OnwardsandUpwards, Mark Robinson and Gill Burgess, representing, among other individuals, best practice in the field of educational services.
It was an evening filled with engaging and enlightening speeches by both industry leaders and senior parliamentarians, punctuated with said parliamentarians dashing out to the Chamber for Brexit indicative votes!
The road to recognition
An evening of celebration at the House of Commons is just one highlight along our journey that began back in 2004 and continues on today. OnwardsandUpwards came out of our initial efforts in constructing a real-time performance management system for organisations of all shapes and sizes. During this time we were approached by a school specifically for SEND pupils.
It was brought to our attention that there was no single holistic platform that could be customised to meet the needs of an individual school’s curriculum and track individual learning outcomes at an affordable cost. The challenge was set and we got to work researching SEND assessments and government analysis requirements and consulting a myriad of schools across the country.
The result was OnwardsandUpwards, a cloud-based system, which continues to be upgraded centrally and is currently used by 56 special schools and one mainstream school.
Looking to the future
OnwardsandUpwards is now ready for a national roll-out and with no other system like this anywhere in the world, we’re hopeful that it will soon reach an international market too. Over 250 schools are needed to cover our ongoing operations, so SEND schools can continue to more effectively track and support the learning and development of their pupils. With news of our selection for ‘Best Practice for SEND Assessment Systems’ in this year’s Parliamentary Review, we’re hoping 2019 will see OnwardsandUpwards reach more schools nationwide.
